Innisfil accountant for trades, small businesses and tax returns

Innisfil runs along the west shore of Lake Simcoe, from Big Bay Point and Alcona down to Gilford. Highway 400 runs up the west side of town, with places like Lefroy, Stroud, Churchill, Cookstown and Innisfil Heights in between. The 2021 census counted 43,326 people, up 18.5% from 2016.

The lakeshore has changed a lot over the years. It used to be mostly cottages and now it's mostly year-round homes. The Friday Harbour development opened at Big Bay Point in 2017.

Turning cottages into year-round homes means plenty of renovation, electrical, plumbing and HVAC work, and that work doesn't come in evenly over the year. Even if most of your money comes in during the busy months, HST and income tax are still due when CRA says they are.

If your books are done every month, your HST is tracked as you go and you have a cash flow forecast, you'll know by August roughly what you'll owe in the spring. That beats finding out in April.

Paying subs on a build? If more than half your business income comes from construction, CRA wants a T5018 for every sub you paid more than $500 in the year (not counting HST). It's due within six months after the end of your reporting period. I track sub payments all year so the slips are ready on time.
