How it works
- 1
20-minute call
You show me your books, or whatever you've got, and we work out what monthly help makes sense.
- 2
Cleanup, if needed
If you're a few months or a year behind, I catch that up first. It's quoted separately.
- 3
Monthly routine
Your reconciliations and statements are ready by the same date every month. You don't have to chase me for them.
Common questions
My books are a mess. Can you start from there?
Yes. I'll look at what's there, quote the cleanup, and do that first.
Do I need to be on QuickBooks already?
No. If you're not on QuickBooks Online yet, I'll move you over when we get started. I'm a QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified ProAdvisor, so it's set up properly from day one.
My receipts live in the truck. How does that work?
Take a photo of the receipt with your phone when you get it and send it to Dext. I categorize it and publish it to QuickBooks, matched to the transaction. No shoebox and no faded receipts in April.
Do I really need a logbook for my truck?
If you're claiming business use of the vehicle, CRA expects one. For each business trip, write down where you went, why, and how many kilometres. After a full year of logging, CRA lets you keep a three-month sample in later years, as long as your business use stays within 10% of that first year.
What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
A bookkeeper records the day-to-day: transactions, receipts and reconciliations. An accountant uses those books to prepare financial statements and tax returns and to give advice. I'm a CPA and I do both, so you don't need two people.
I already use QuickBooks. Do I still need an accountant?
QuickBooks only knows what goes into it. It won't catch a wrong category, file your HST or your year-end return, or tell you how to pay yourself. A lot of my clients were already on QuickBooks Online. I make sure what's in it is right and take care of the rest.
